Trips And Learning Experiences
Capitol Experience
Older teens are encouraged to learn more about the state legislative process by participating in this 3 day experience in Lansing in March of each year. Participants will meet other 4-H teens from across the state, discuss state issues, sit in on committee meetings, meet their district representatives, learn the importance of lobbyists, and get the experience of a lifetime! Youth come home with a new understanding of our state legislature, and can better understand our government systems. The registration deadline is mid winter and scholarships may be available. Contact the office (734) 997-1678 for more information.
Citizenship Washington Focus
Older teens spend nearly a week in the summer, usually early July, traveling by bus to Washington DC with 4-H teens from across Michigan. Teens will gain insight into the government process at the national level, visit historic sites along the way, such as Gettysburg, etc., participate in educational groups, plus meet with senators and representatives or their staff. The registration deadline is mid winter to early spring, and scholarships are generally available through the county. Contact the 4-H Office for more information.
