A wide array of services are available to assist you in finding a new job or a new career. Assistance is available for people with all types of backgrounds and needs. Some of the services and resources include:

Assessment Services

A variety of self-service and staff-assisted assessment tools are available such as:

  • Career Interest/Aptitude Inventory
  • Job Fit is an internet computer based tool that helps people manage their career search. It includes a range of features that help you assess your skills and interests and present them effectively to prospective employers.
  • Specialized Assessment (Reading and Math Assessment)

Assistive Technology

Computer workstations are available for people with special needs. Some of the enhancements available are:

  • Computer workstations that will accommodate a wheel chair
  • Large keyboards with oversize letters
  • Keyboards for limited motion range as well as Mouse/Trackball
  • Voice Recognition software
  • Screen magnification and reader for visually impaired users
  • Software for customers with reading and writing difficulties
  • Software for hearing impaired customers

Career Counseling/Seminars

Career Counseling and seminar dates are listed on the workshop calendar. Some of the topics include:

  • Job Search Planning and Workshops
  • Career Guidance Seminars
  • Resume Writing
  • Interview Skills
  • Professional Development Workshops

Education & Training Assistance

Education and training assistance is available through Michigan Works!/ETCS. This includes information about programs and courses that can lead to new careers as well as information about financial assistance.

For many people who are unemployed, financial assistance is available to help pay for tuition and fees for both short-term and longer-term training. Some examples of past training and education include:

  • Completing a college degree in nursing, teaching or business
  • Obtaining a GED or high school completion
  • Learning to become a truck driver
  • Attending Entrepreneur Boot Camp to start a business

Job Fairs

Job Fairs of different types are held on a regular basis. Some Job Fairs are for specific companies while others are for specific types of careers. Check the calendar!

Job Search Office Equipment

Computers with internet access, telephones, copy machines and fax service are available to help with your job search.

Resource Room

The Service Centers Resource Room includes a wide selection of information to help in your job search.

  • Job Leads Board and binders with the newest job leads from local companies
  • Reference Materials; Employment related books, magazines and videos on many subjects such as writing resumes, career exploration, cover letters and interview preparation.
  • Local Newspapers; check out the ads for job leads.
  • Employment Applications; job applications and employment information from many local employers are available.

Virtual Video Interviewing

The Service Center offers Job Seekers the ability to develop a Virtual Interview. This internet computer based video tool is a great way to enhance your interviewing skills. Its also a great way to get you in front of employers!

Veteran Services

Veteran Employment Services provide specialized employment services for people who have served in the United States Military. Veteran Representatives have access to area job openings before they become available to the general public.  Veterans Services include:

  • Employment preference to all jobs within the Michigan Works Service Center
  • Direct Employment Referrals
  • Career and Educational Counseling
  • Information and Referrals to Community Organizations and Services
  • Computer Assistance
