Information for Zero Waste Events in Washtenaw County, MI

Zero Waste Washtenaw Logo with webWashtenaw County's Solid Waste Division offers resources and education to implement composting & recycling at special events in the community through the Zero Waste Washtenaw program!

The purpose of Zero Waste Washtenaw is to encourage and assist all community event participants (organizers, vendors, & attendees) in reducing the environmental impact of events by working towards the goal of zero waste.

  • In 2017, Zero Waste Washtenaw...

    -Partnered with 26 events
    -Recycled 2452 pounds
    -Composted 3371 pounds
    -Achieved an average diversion rate of 81.3%

  • In October, Zero Waste Washtenaw partnered with:
    -Ann Arbor Farmers Market Food Truck Rally (Oct. 4th)
    -Lawton Elementary's Run-A-Thon (Oct. 6th)
    -Zion Lutheran Church, Chelsea Sauerkraut Dinner (Oct. 14th)
    - Washtenaw / Ann Arbor Crop Hunger Walk (Oct. 15th)

  • In September, Zero Waste Washtenaw partnered with:

    - The Ann Arbor Farmers Market Food Truck Rally (Sept. 6th) for the first time, achieving a 69% diversion rate!

    -Washtenaw Community College's Welcome Day  (Sept. 13th), achieving a diversion rate of  80%. 

    -Saline Oktoberfest (Sept. 22nd & 23rd), achieving a diversion rate of 66%. That's an increase of 18% from last year! Way  to go!

  • Sept. 27, 2017:  This article from our partner, Recycle Ann Arbor, summarizes the success of Zero Waste Washtenaw over the past 2 years.

In partnership with Recycle Ann Arbor and Amcor Rigid Plastics, Washtenaw County has received funding through the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) Pollution Prevention grant program to offer Zero Waste Washtenaw, a community program that provides opportunities & resources for zero waste events in Washtenaw County. Please contact us if interested to partner with Washtenaw County to achieve Zero Waste at your next community or private event!
