Clean Sweep Program - Pesticide Disposal
The Michigan Clean Sweep Program makes it easy to get rid of unused, expired or unwanted pesticides - for FREE!
The Michigan Clean Sweep Program protects the state's natural resources and prevents pollution by ensuring the safe and proper disposal of pesticides. We accept pesticides from any Michigan resident or business. This program is perfect for agribusinesses, greenhouses, nurseries, and golf courses with expired pesticide product! APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED. Please read below for more information.
What we accept
Pesticides (including herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, etc.).
Please note that we do not accept fertilizer or other non-pesticide products under the Clean Sweep Program. If you are a resident of Washtenaw County and you have other toxic materials to dispose of, please see our Home Toxics Reduction Program.
Call the Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner's Solid Waste Program at 734-222-6874 to schedule an appointment. Weekday and some Saturday appointments are available. If leaving a voicemail, please include your name and phone number. Your call will be returned as soon as possible. We are as flexible as possible and ask for at least a 2-day notice.
- Upon arrival for your appointment, please check in at the front customer counter unless other arrangements have been made. Leave the pesticides in your vehicle. You will be instructed to pull around the back of the building to the collection shed.
- All pesticides must be catalogued before you can leave, noting the item name, EPA registration number and weight. If you are a business and/or have a large number of products, please fill out this form and bring it with you.
- Showing up without an appointment will not guarantee an employee will be present to help you. Please call ahead and schedule an appointment so we can be there to assist you!
Bring the pesticides to the Washtenaw County Home Toxics Reduction Center, which is located at the Western Washtenaw County Service Center, at 705 N. Zeeb Road, Ann Arbor (see below). The Western Service Center is just north of Exit 169 on I-94, in between the Washtenaw County Road Commission and Scio Township Hall. Access directions here. Once you arrive at the building, please check in at the front desk. You will then follow the driveway past the building to the back left of the parking lot (south side) to the white shed surrounded by a green chain-link fence (See site map).
