Sustainable Practices
The Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority (YCUA) provides wastewater treatment to Ypsilanti residents as well as residents in outlying areas. A wide variety of items are recycled among the 127 employees including yard waste, scrap metal and fluorescent lights. Employees are responsible for collecting and transporting their recyclables to one of the Ypsilanti Township recycling drop-off locations. YCUA has also made a commitment to close the recycling loop by purchasing high post-consumer recycled content materials such as hanging files, printer paper and paper pads. In order to reduce their waste, electronic and web based documents are utilized as well as paperless invoicing. Used paper is reused as note pads and the facility also participates in a waste oil recovery program. In addition to these programs, the Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority is further protecting the environment by instituting a storm water management plan and has completed their spill prevention plan.
