Sustainable Practices
St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish and School serves as a great example of environmental ethics to nearly 1300 students. The parish and school provide strong support for their recycling operations. A wide variety of items including laser printer cartridges are collected for recycling. Part of the success of St. Francis of Assisis recycling program can be attributed to the convenient recycling offered to students and staff; recycling bins are located in all classrooms. All organic waste is collected and taken to the Drop-Off Station located on Ellsworth Road where it is composed into a rich soil amendment. Recently, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish and School expanded their reuse and recycling program by collecting used, unwanted cell phones for the Notre Dame Club who gives the phones to victims of domestic violence. St. Francis of Assisi also participates in other environmental efforts, such as integrative pest management.
