Sustainable Business Practices

The Ann Arbor branch of Materialise, a software production company with locations around the world, has taken a proactive approach to reducing waste in its office. The company recycles many materials from white paper to cardboard and cans to wood debris. In addition, the company reduces waste by printing double-sided pages and utilizing electronic documents and email to reduce paper usage. Materialise also reuses boxes, packing materials, mugs and utensils in their office, further reducing their waste stream. Recycled products are collected once a week by Recycle Works and new employees are introduced to their waste reduction program by a designated employee who oversees the recycling program. The company has also become more conscious of energy conservation by replacing incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs and installing variable air volume systems in heating and cooling equipment. The Waste Knot program is excited to partner with Materialise and looks forward to great things to come from the company.
