Business Overview

Like Water is a business that offers drum and dance classes, ensemble performances, traditional instrument sales, adventure travel to Africa, and more to schools, institutions and individuals.

Like Water has a drum shop, where drums are built and repaired.

Like Water has a performance group called Like Water Drum and Dance. The ensemble performs at schools, festivals, and other events. Like Water Drum & Dance delivers explosive performances of incredible dance and captivating West African rhythms. Down-to-Earth explanations, inspiring stories, and insight into the West African culture combine for a show stocked full of energy, positivity and fun.

Like Water also offers special events to the community. We have an annual Youth Hand Drumming Camp, a Drum Making Weekend, host a study trip to Guinea, West Africa, and bring in special teachers.

Like Waters newest project is called Trees in Guinea. Its mission is to establish and maintain a land reserve in Guinea, West Africa dedicated to the planting, preservation and awareness of hardwood trees, the surrounding social environment, and the ecology they support and depend on. The goal is to educate on a local and national level about sustainable forestry techniques, alternatives to charcoal-fueled cooking, and to raise and manage funding for the Project.

Sustainable Business Practices

Like Water Drum Works is committed to unity through music and movement, education and respect. We believe this commitment includes our performances, our classes, our events, our drum building and our business practices. We hope to be a role model as a sustainable business. This includes our relationship to the earth today, providing artists a way to make a living, and considering the impact of all we do on future generations. Like Water Drum Works recycles obsessively, composts organic waste, and heats our drum shop by burning scrap wood. We help to close the loop by purchasing paper and folders made from recycled material and our desks are made out of salvaged wood. To save energy we employ night setbacks and use compact fluorescent bulbs and electronic ballasts.
