Sustainable Practices

Located in Saline, under the leadership of dedicated faculty and students, the Heritage Elementary School has developed a Recycling Club that serves as a recycling model program for the entire school district. As of 2007, Heritage Elementary School recycles all paper, cardboard and containers in ever class room including the cafeteria. The Recycling Club is base on volunteer staff and student based. The volunteer workforce has stepped up to the challenge with 50 student Recycling Club Members collecting and empting bins everyday after school. Other buildings in the school district are now starting recycling clubs. Improvements to energy use have also been enacted with the use of Energy Star Appliances and a lighting change out program to convert to compact fluorescent bulbs.
