Sustainable Business Practices

DTE Energy is committed to waste reduction and recycling efforts. They reuse boxes and packing material as well as use paper previously printed on one side as scrap paper for phone messages. Many items that cannot be reused are recycled including paper, cardboard, containers, packaging materials, and wood debris. In order to make the most of their recycling program, employees are encouraged to recycle through two incentive- based reward programs. The Applause Award program recognizes and rewards employees who demonstrate outstanding performance or achievement in areas including waste reduction and recycling. The Innovations program is designed to capture, implement and award employees ideas that improve the company, including ideas on how to expand the current recycling program. In an effort to conserve energy the company has placed external lights on timers, performs preventative maintenance on major equipment, and reduces temperatures when the building is unoccupied.
