Sustainable Business Practices

In the words of Leah Hollier-Kerr, the Huron Valley Service Centers Quality of Life Director, We try hard to recycle everything we can! For an organization of only eight people, the group certainly comes through on this promise. The Center recycles paper, cardboard, cans, computers and cell phones, in addition to engaging in many waste saving practices. The Center prints double-sided pages and uses paperless invoicing, electronic documents and email to reduce paper communications. The Center recycles 8 containers once a week with the Ann Arbor Recycle Center. In addition, they reuse many items including folders, envelopes, boxes and paper and purchase products composed of recycled materials. The Center has defined its waste reduction goals with a written statement and introduces new employees to its program upon hiring. One employee is designated to oversee the program. They have also taken the first steps in conserving energy in their office, such as enabling ENERGY STAR features on office equipment, installing occupancy centers in their offices and employing night setbacks and other temperature control measures for times when the building is unoccupied.
