Sustainable Business Practices
The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museums mission is to provide an opportunity for people of all ages to discover and enjoy the wonder of science, math and technology in an interactive environment that promotes science literacy through experimentation, exploration and education. The staff at the Hands-On Museum is also dedicated to reducing their impact on the environment. They recycle and reuse various materials and buy recycled content cardboard boxes. They use compact fluorescent light bulbs to save energy as well as have occupancy sensors installed in the restrooms. The external lights are on timers and temperature control measures are in place for when the building is unoccupied. They also use fish emulsion as fertilizer for outdoor flowers instead of standard chemical fertilizers.
