Sustainable Practices
Each Wednesday and Saturday morning, the City of Ann Arbor Farmers Market, located in the heart of Kerrytown, features a fanfare of local produce, herbs, flowers, jams, syrups, pies and artisan goods. This unique and delightful market is committed to local produce and waste reduction. The Markets most notable waste diversion initiative is their donation of produce to Food Gatherers, which distributes fresh but unsold goods to those who need it. To minimize waste, reports and applications for events are submitted and received electronically and documents are printed double-sided. Kitchenware and paper products are reused in the office. The Ann Arbor Farmers Market has formalized a policy regarding recycling products and currently purchases recycled content copier paper, business cards, envelopes and toilet paper. In addition, the Market reduces energy by purchasing ENERGY STAR-rated office equipment and turning down temperatures when the building is unoccupied.
