Sustainable Business Practices
Homeowner Services of America (HSA) has completed over 500 remodeling projects in the Ann Arbor area since opening in 1989. Their commitment to the environment involves a multidimensional approach to waste reduction. While many items are reused in their office including general office supplies, boxes, and packing materials, scrap wood is used as much as possible in their building projects. Besides purchasing recycled-content supplies and recycling materials such as cardboard, wood debris and scrap metal, HSA conserves energy by replacing old fluorescent fixtures with newer T8 or T5 bulbs and employs night setbacks when their office is unoccupied. HSA also encourages customers to use environmentally-friendly products, like bamboo flooring, in their remodeling projects and take usable building materials to the Recycle Ann Arbor Reuse Center. Most of HSAs recycling takes place at job sites, where clients and employees are updated on waste reduction policies.
