Kaiser Optical System
Sustainable Business Practices
Kaiser Optical Systems is a manufacturer specializing in applied holographic technology for defense, scientific and industrial applications. Since 1999, they have been reducing the chemical inventory held on site and have also seen a steady decline in the hazardous waste generated on site. Through the introduction of a more all-encompassing recycling program, the company has experienced a 75% reduction in waste sent to the landfill. Aside from reusing items such as folders, boxes and packaging materials, a wide variety of items containing recycled content materials are purchased. Kaiser Optical Systems has reduced its volume of land-filled waste by 50% since 2001, partly by making the switch to buying bulk alcohol and reducing the amount of packaging waste generated by buying it in bottles. Kaiser is dedicated to maintaining a clean operation that produces a minimal amount of waste and, when it does produce waste, handling it properly. Kaiser has taken great strides this year towards paperless work. Blueprints are scanned in and the company no longer needs to maintain paper blueprints on file. The company switched all feasible janitorial supplies to 100% recycled content products. Kaiser Optical Systems, Inc. was designated as a Clean Corporate Citizen by the State of Michigan in 2005.
