Health Alert -- Severe Shortage of Rabies Vaccine!
The Center for Disease Control and the Michigan Department of Community
Health have notified the Washtenaw County Public Health Department (WCPHD)
that there is a severe shortage of the human rabies vaccine. This is due to
decreased production.

Fight the Bite!
West Nile virus has been found in 3 dead birds since August 15, two
birds in Ann Arbor and one in Ypsilanti. West Nile activity typically
becomes more widespread in August and September, so protect yourself and
your family from mosquito bites. Please report all dead birds to the
West Nile hotline.

Rabies activity for 2008
Human and bat encounters are increasing across
Washtenaw County. If you have direct contact with a bat, it needs to be
tested for rabies (don't shoo it out the window!). Rabies activity in
wild animals is up in 2008.
