2010 Severe Weather "Skywarn Spotter" Training
Washtenaw County is offering Skywarn Spotter training free of charge to anyone 18 years of age or older who is interested in being trained in severe weather identification, protection, and reporting procedures. The course is about 3 hours long, and identification codes are issued to all who complete the program. For class information and online registration click here

If an emergency situation in our county occured, volunteers would be needed to supplement existing community resources. Organizations that serve to protect the health and safety of Washtenaw County residents and respond to emergencies would likely be unable to keep up with the demand for services. Washtenaw County's Outdoor Warning Siren System
The Emergency Management Division is responsible for the activation of thirty-one designated outdoor warning sirens throughout Washtenaw County. Except for scheduled testing, these sirens will be activated when significant severe weather has been detected (a tornado or a severe thunderstorm with damaging winds confirmed to be in excess of 70 MPH); when a hazardous materials accident occurs that requires immediate protective action by the public, or for other critical events such homeland security emergencies.
