On October 18, 2006 for the first time, our county officially recognized “Investing in Abilities” month. On behalf of the Supported Employment collaboration in our county we would like to thank the Commissioners for honoring some of our outstanding employers.
Opportunities for meaningful work are crucial to full inclusion for individuals with disabilities. Inclusion is crucial in vitality and diversity in our community. Washtenaw County has long been on the forefront in Michigan in offering work opportunities through Supported Employment.
In Washtenaw County there are currently over 250 individuals with disabilities working in our community through collaboration between public agencies service providers and employers. Just through CSTS services there are over 40 employers actively providing job opportunities.
The evening’s awardees are representative of the range of opportunities employers in our community are providing for individuals with disabilities.
The partners recommending these employers include the WISD, Michigan
Rehabilitation Services, STEP, and CSTS.
