The Washtenaw County Office of Community & Economic Development is pleased to announce that one of our own Washtenaw County Local Historic Districts, the Glenn D. and Jeanine Head Miller – owners of the Milton & Kittie Geer House, will be honored as part of this year’s Governor’s Awards for Historic Preservation.

This awards ceremony will take place on the morning of Wednesday, May 1, at the Capitol Rotunda in Lansing.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for all the hard work we’ve put into the place over the past several years,” said Glenn Miller.  Mr. Miller and his wife, Jeanine Head Miller, knew they had a large project ahead of them when they purchased the property in on Ann Arbor-Plymouth Road in Superior Township. Built in 1884, the brick Italianate Revival house exemplified the architectural style favored by prosperous local families, both rural and urban.

Since their purchase in 2000, the Millers have worked tirelessly to replace all mechanicals and fully restore both the interior and exterior of the house in keeping with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.  Upon acquiring the property, the Millers also worked with local historians to designate the property as a Washtenaw County Local Historic District. They later used Michigan's Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits program to help defray the cost of rear kitchen addition. In 2007, the property was included in the Esek Pray Trail Tour, a Washtenaw County Heritage Driving Tour of northeast Washtenaw County.

Washtenaw County congratulates Glenn D. and Jeanine Head Miller, and thanks them for being such dedicated stewards for this important historic property. Bravo!
