Community & Economic Development to Host Community Day with Parkridge Summer Festival Committee
Various organizations offering free and low-cost services expected to be a highlight of the festival.
For the second consecutive year Washtenaw County has partnered with the Parkridge Summer Festival Committee to make critical resources available to county residents in a unique format that includes food, entertainment and fun for the entire family.
This year’s festival will be held on Saturday, August 24, 11:00 am – 8:30 pm at Parkridge Park, which is adjacent to the Perry Child Development Center and behind Parkridge Community Center.
Non-profit agencies, local county departments and the companies Walgreens, Comcast Cable and Fifth Third Bank will be on hand between 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm providing valuable information regarding free and/or low cost programs and services, including:
· Home Rehabilitation Services
· Low Cost Internet Service
· Eviction Prevention
· Veteran’s Services
· And much more
Additional activities include a car show, unique merchandise vendors, kids’ face painting, games, food, and live entertainment featuring several of the area’s most talented bands, choirs, and solo artists, plus the Washtenaw County Balling Series All-Star Saturday.
The Parkridge Summer Fest was started in 2011 to build awareness about the many programs available at the Parkridge Community Center (591 Armstrong) while re-energizing a forgotten festival tradition that brings communities together and encourages networking for positive change.
“Washtenaw County Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED) is honored to be the partner of such a powerful outreach effort” said OCED director Mary Jo Callan. “Our department is dedicated to building communities that both the County and its residents’ can be proud of. This event is certainly a step in that direction”.
Parkridge Summer Festival Committee and the Office Community and Economic Development are encouraging citizens across Washtenaw County and neighbors that live beyond the county borders to attend the event to learn more about the many resources provided at the Parkridge Community Center and throughout Washtenaw County.
