Barrier Busters Funding Update

The Office of Community & Economic Development (OCED) provides staffing to the Barrier Busters Network and manages the corresponding Barrier Busters Emergency Unmet Needs Fund on behalf of the community.  That fund – actually a collection of many different funds from public and private sector partners – provides emergency, one-time financial assistance to low-income residents of Washtenaw County.  Funds are accessed by direct service staff who are designated as “Barrier Busters” by their member agencies.

Recently, Barrier Busters received funds from the United Way of Washtenaw County on behalf of the Women’s Leadership Initiative to assist women (18+) throughout Washtenaw County.  Over the next 12 months, this funding is intended to help up to 15 women move toward greater levels of self-sufficiency. It will be used to help households overcome emergency situations, including assistance with rent payments to prevent eviction and utility bills to prevent shutoff.  The Barrier Busters Emergency Unmet Needs Fund is grateful and excited to have this funding resource at its disposal to help the most vulnerable in Washtenaw County.
