The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (EFSP) provides funding for local areas to supplement the work of social service organizations to help people in need of emergency assistance. Funding is provided by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). EFSP Phase 30 funding is to be provided without discrimination due to age, race, sex, religion, national origin, disability, economic status, sexual orientation, or marital status. This collaborative effort between the private and public sectors has disbursed over $3.1 billion in Federal funds during its 28-year history across the country. Locally, EFSP has assisted nonprofit and faith-based organizations provide food and emergency shelter to persons in high-need areas throughout Washtenaw County on a per diem basis.
