About Us:
The Wasthenaw County Juvenile Detention Center, a division of Washtenaw
County Children's Services, is
responsible for providing temporary custody and care for juveniles in a safe
and secure setting. Juveniles
that are place in our detention facility are temporarily detained
pending disposition of court programs, or often
awaiting transfer to another facility or placement that cannot be served in
an open setting. The Detention facility
is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 365 days per year.
Detention Services Include:
Programming: Daily recreation, daily group counseling,
individual counseling as needed,
and a year-round fully accredited school program taught by Master
level teaching instructors.
Our programming now includes Rational Behavior Training (RBT) for the youth
we serve. RBT
is a Cognitive Behavioral program with a focus on making youth aware of
their thoughts and
actions. The implementation of RBT into the facility has
resulted in many positive gains and
overall success. In fact, our detention planning
team was awarded in 2007 with a Washtenaw
County Government Service and Enhancement Award for the
success in implementing RBT into
our programming.
Safety, Security and Order: Youth and employees are
safe and secure in all activities within
the facility. Detention staff spend a minimum of 60 hours per year in job
training to enhance
their knowledge base and further increase their ability to be effective with
the youth we serve.
Justice: Conduct consistent with regulatory,
statutory, and case law requirements.
