Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Program Description
The IOP program is a community based program specializing in
providing drug treatment and educational services to youth who struggle with
drug abuse and addiction. Youth ordered by the
Juvenile Court to attend the IOP program experience a highly
structured school day Monday through Friday. This not only includes
attending school and treatment, but also community service work,
educational modules (Life skills, Anger mgnt., Healthy
Relationships), field trips, and
Rational Behavior Training (RBT) groups. Youth remain living in
their homes while attending the IOP program. Daily transportation to
the program is provided by the IOP staff. Youth typically attend
programming from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM each day. On weekends and
evenings, the youth are monitored by the Juvenile Court Night
Surveillance program. Three meals per day are provided to youth in the
program. In addition, the youth are drug / alcohol tested on
a random basis to ensure they are maintaining sobriety.
School
While in IOP, the youth attend a year-round full day accredited
educational program. The Washtenaw County Intermediate School District
provides Masters-Level Educators for academic classes including: Math,
Social Studies, Civics, Biology, Physical Science, Language Arts,
Literature, Academic support, and Physical education. There are also
opportunities for youth to earn high school credits in other subjects
through independent study. In addition to the educators, there is also
a full-time School Social Worker who acts as a liaison between the youth's
school district and IOP, assisting youth in their transition back to school
after completing the program. School begins at 9:25 AM and ends 3:15
PM.
Drug Treatment
Since the beginning in 2004, the Substance Abuse component of
treatment has been provided by Dawn Farm. The youth in the
program attend therapeutic substance abuse treatment groups three times
per week as well as individual counseling sessions and family therapy
conducted by an assigned Dawn Farm Therapist. In addition to this,
youth are assigned a Recovery Support Specialist to assist them in
recovery and community resources and activities that encourage
sobriety. Dawn Farm provides the following: Assessments, Case
management, Individual therapy, Family therapy and education, Parenting
support, Recovery support, Recreational support, Community service,
Group counseling and Didactic sessions, and AA / NA / CA groups.
