The 800MHz Consortium established a business plan committee which was charged with identifying ways to ensure the long range viability of interoperable communications in Washtenaw County. This committee recommended that Washtenaw County join the Michigan Public Safety Communication (MPSCS) system. The Consortium recommended to the BOC that the issue be referred to County residents.
In May 2006, the voters of Washtenaw County approved a millage to optimize radio communication in Washtenaw County. The purpose of the 800MHz project, then, is to increase the communication coverage throughout Washtenaw County, and ultimately create a common framework through which all police, fire, and EMS agencies can communicate with one another in a time of emergency.
The 800MHz Oversight Committee meetings are held regularly the second Monday of every month, 1:00-2:30 p.m., at the Lower Level Conference Room, 110 N. Fourth St., Ann Arbor, MI (unless otherwise noted in the meeting schedule). The agenda is determined by the 800MHz Oversight Committee. These meetings are open to public participation, and there is time placed on each agenda for public commentary.
