6. Results of Recall Election
The county board of canvassers certifies the election (168.968).
The county clerk shall notify the clerk or secretary of the jurisdiction and the officer subject to recall immediately upon certification (168.968).
If Recall Unsuccessful:
- The officer is not subject to recall again during same term, unless the petitioners pay entire cost of previous recall election (168.969).
If Recall Successful:
- Office becomes vacant upon certification of the election (168.968).
- Upon vacancy, the officer empowered by law to perform the duties of the recalled officer will perform the duties of the office until the successor of the vacancy is elected. Where the power to appoint exists, then the office shall be filled by temporary appointment effective until a successor shall be duly elected. (168.970).
7. Special Election
If recall is successful, a special election to fill the vacancy will be held on the next regular election date (168.971).

Nonpartisan candidates may also run for office by filing the appropriate number of Qualifying Petition signatures within 15 days of the recall election certification.
The candidate receiving the highest number of votes for the vacancy created on such recall should be considered duly elected for the remainder of the term (168.975).
An officer who was recalled shall not be a candidate to fill the vacancy created by the recall nor be appointed to fill a vacancy in an elective office in the electoral district or governmental unit from which the recall was made during the term of office from which the officer was recalled (168.974).
