Seeking Citizen Volunteers for Three Boards


The Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants for three volunteer boards. Interested Washtenaw County residents can send a brief letter of interest and their resume to by January 12, 2014.


The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners is looking for citizens to volunteer for a slate of positions with the various Boards, Committees and Commissions. The Board of Commissioners will make these appointments at their upcoming session on January 22, 2013 at 6:45 p.m. in the Board Room, Administration Building, 220 North Main Street, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Those resumes received by January 12, 2014 will be submitted to the Board of Commissioners for its consideration on January 22, 2014. The appointments will become effective January 1, 2014. These appointments include:

Ø  Parks and Recreation Commission – The Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill one position representing the general public for a three-year term expiring December 31, 2016. The Parks and Recreation Commission was established in 1965 in conformity with Michigan Public Act 261 of 1965. The purpose of the Commission is to acquire, develop, operate and maintain land and recreational facilities, activities and programs not generally available or adequately provided. The Commission also plays a key role in countywide land preservation and stewardship efforts; the protection of sensitive ecosystems; environmental education; and the development of a non-motorized trail network linking communities, parks, and activity centers.

Ø  Southeast Michigan Regional Transit Authority – The Board of Commissioners is looking to fill one (1) position representing Resident for a three-year term expiring December 31, 2016. The Regional Transit Authority was established in accordance with Public Act 387 of 2012. Applicants  should have substantial business, financial, or professional experience relevant to the operation of a corporation or public transportation system

Ø  Washtenaw County Food Policy Council – The Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill three positions, one (1) representing Economic Development, one (1) representing Food Service, one(1) representing Planning or Transportation. The available positions above have two-year terms expiring December 31, 2015. The Food Policy Council was established in 2012 to develop a healthy community and thriving local food system.
