Commissioner Bergman has served on the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners since 1993. Commissioner Bergman is the 2007 Chair of the Ways & Means Committee.  She earned her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan, with a major in program planning and public policy analysis.

As a County Commissioner, she serves on the Washtenaw Community Health Organization Board, is a representative of the County on the Area Agency on Aging IB Board, Drainage Board, Emergency Medical Services Commission, Property Tax Foreclosure Prevention Task Force, Michigan Association of Local Public Health, Homeland Security Task Force, and Chair's the City of Ann Arbor / Washtenaw County Community Corrections Advisory Board.
