Commissioner Lovejoy Roe is committed to protecting the public safety and health of all county residents by securing the long term viability and funding for the Washtenaw County Sheriffs Department. She is committed to working diligently to resolve the litigation between the townships and the county as quickly as possible and providing a return to reasonable rates for police services as originally outlined in the first contracts and historically a priority in Washtenaw County.
The economic development of our county is directly tied to public safety and quality police services. Our property values and the growth of our businesses must be protected by making Washtenaw County the safest place to live, work and play within. The first basic human and social need is to be safe where we live. Karen is passionate about the priority of county government to provide a safe environment for all county children, families, seniors and our students as a basic service. Every child deserves a safe home and neighborhood to grow up in.
Recreational opportunities for families, youth and seniors are on the priority list for Karen and she hopes to work with other commissioners to bring a recreation center to the eastern side of the county.
Karen has extensive public service experience, serving as the first female Supervisor in the Charter Township of Ypsilanti for two terms and also as a trustee for two terms. She has served in leadership in municipal government for over 16 years.
Washtenaw County has been home for Karen her entire life. She received her Masters in Social Science from Eastern Michigan University and a Bachelors degree in Political Science, Sociology and Education also from Eastern Michigan University. She is both a graduate and former teacher of Willow Run Schools.
Most importantly, Karen shares responsibility of raising their five children with her husband, Rick Roe. Karen is a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Commissioner Lovejoy Roe is extremely grateful for the unwavering support she has received from the community over the years. She will work for responsible public policy that represents all residents of Washtenaw County. She considers it a great honor, privilege and blessing to be elected to serve. The ability to help people on a daily basis is at the heart of her role as an elected servant.
