Bob's Update - January 11, 2010
The first week of 2010 was an important one for the Board of Commissioners, with the election of their officers and the announcement of the selection process for the new Administrator.
The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners met for the first time in 2010 on Wednesday night, setting up for the new year by re-electing their Board Chair, Rolland Sizemore Jr. and voting to retain all the same leadership from last year. In my mind the re-election of the Leadership demonstrates a tremendous vote of confidence by the Board, and it will provide the necessary continuity for the immense amount of work before us this year.
The Board's chairs and vice-chairs are as follows:
Commissioner Rolland Sizemore Jr., Chair of the Board of Commissioners
Commissioner Mark Ouimet, Vice-chair of the Board of Commissioners
Commissioner Conan Smith, Chair of Ways & Means
Commissioner Kristin Judge, Vice-chair of Ways & Means
Commissioner Jessica Ping, Chair of the Working Session
Commissioner Ken Schwartz, Vice-chair of the Working Session
Also at last Wednesday’s meeting, the Board discussed the process for selecting the new Administrator. They decided to post the position internally beginning today through Friday and plan to conduct the interviews at the January 21st Board Working Session. The Board hopes to appoint the new Administrator at the February 3rd Board meeting providing the ideal candidate has been interviewed.
We’ve built a foundation for this organization that has been supported by the Guiding Principles and Continuous Improvement and focused on leadership through Professional Development and the Leadership Academy. Because of this we have seen impactful leaders emerge throughout the years – leaders who have gone on to do great work in this community. So, it’s only fitting that the Board would look internally to find the next County Administrator. I believe this means they possess the same confidence as I do about the leadership within this organization.
I hope you have a great week and stay warm.
