Larry Can Vote by Himself Now
November of
2006 was the first time that Larry, a quadriplegic since a drunk driver hit
and flipped his car when he was 22, was able to actually cast a secret
ballot.
The Elections Division’s Sip/Puff device allows a person to “mark” their ballot electronically by sipping and/or puffing the choices through a straw, the same way they use computers at home. In every election – and Larry never misses the opportunity to vote – for the past 13 years, this man has had to tell someone who and what he’s voting for in order to cast his ballot.
