Washtenaw County has launched the Revolving Loan Fund Program and is now accepting applications for loans and sub-grants as the next step of the $1.5 M Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) grant received from the EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency). The goal of the RLF grant is to provide low interest loans and sub-grants for cleanup of contaminated Brownfield sites. (See Press Release)
An added benefit of the RLF is that once the initial loans are repaid and returned to the fund, they become available to loan out again for future Brownfield projects.
A Brownfield is a blighted, contaminated or functionally obsolete property where new development will not occur without financial assistance for cleanup, clearing or rehabilitation of existing structures. Redeveloping Brownfields helps to ease urban sprawl by encouraging the reuse of areas where water, sewage or electrical infrastructure is already in place.
To further this goal Washtenaw County is reaching out to individuals, organizations and communities who are working to develop contaminated sites and need financial assistance with cleanup costs. The RLF allows the County to assist developers with the up-front costs related to cleaning up the Brownfield site.
Information on the RLF Grant is available on the the Washtenaw County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority web site, or at the Washtenaw County Western Service Center – Department of Planning and Environment offices, located at 705 North Zeeb Road in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
